Power and communications are passed to the downhole sensor via a wye-point connection in the Surface Choke assembly.

This Surface Choke assembly allows a connection to be made onto the ESP cable. A further wye-point connection at the ESP motor bus bar ring provides continuity to the downhole sensor. The signal return path of the sensor system is via the earth bond. Downhole data is communicated to surface by the downhole sensor by modulating the current drawn for the Zenith® Interface Unit.

This allows the ESP system parameters, such as pressure, temperature, and vibration, to be monitored and the ESP system’s behavior to be optimized.
