SULFATROL™ is a sulfonated resin primarily used for shale stabilization and to reduce high-pressure high-temperature (HP-HT) filtration in water-based drilling fluids. It is also used in invert emulsion drilling fluids to reduce HP-HT filtration. SULFATROL™ can be used in fresh to saturated salt water-based drilling fluid systems and in invert emulsion drilling fluids primarily to stabilize shales and has the added benefits of markedly reducing HP-HT filtration and reducing downhole torque and drag.
